UPDATE Oct 2019 - we did it! What a wild seven weeks that was! We were absolutely blown away with the passion of tamariki nationwide who both learnt about the environmental issues that Aotearoa faces, and took action to create a brighter future. If you missed it, no worries! All the lesson plans and resources are still freely available on this website for you to use in your class. The ‘intro videos’ and competitions/prize announcements were released to correspond with each week, so these may not be so relevant now, but should still help to introduce your students to the relevant topic. Squawk Squad ran a free 7-week, nation-wide programme that started on the August 5th 2019, teaching our tamariki to become kaitiaki for Aotearoa. Through fun activities, interactive videos, virtual reality and prizes, we covered exciting topics ranging from Predator Free 2050 to Kaitiakitanga to Climate Change.
You can still use the content via 7x one-hour lesson plans over 7-weeks - easy. Head over to “Weekly Activities” - here you’ll find curriculum-linked, easy-to-use lesson ideas and call-to-actions.
